Quick start

Set up in four steps

  1. Plug the device directly into a standard indoor wall outlet. Do not use a power strip, extension cord, or outlet adapter.
  2. Place it in an open area with the speaker facing into the room. Avoid blocking it with furniture, curtains, or appliances. Ultrasonic sound does not travel through walls, doors, or solid objects.
  3. Use one device per room. Each room that needs coverage should have its own unit.
  4. Coverage: up to approximately 350 square feet of open, unobstructed space per device. Walls, furniture, and soft furnishings reduce coverage.

Installation tips

Getting the best results

  1. Keep the unit unobstructed, with the speaker facing the open room.
  2. Use one unit per room. Add units for additional rooms, or for spaces larger than about 350 square feet or divided by walls or large furniture.
  3. Leave the device plugged in and running continuously. Allow at least 7–14 days of continuous operation before judging results.
  4. Keep the area clean and store food in sealed containers. PestRx works best when food sources and entry points are also addressed (see tips).

A temporary increase in pest or rodent activity is common in the first 72 hours as the sound disrupts their normal patterns. Activity typically declines over the following 7–14 days.

Mode guide

Operating modes

Press the power button on the front of the device to cycle through the modes. The indicator light shows that the device is on.

Illustration of PestRx in a wall outlet showing the power button and speaker
First press

Passive Mode (silent to people)

Emits ultrasonic sound above the range of normal human hearing. Intended for everyday, ongoing use in homes, offices, kitchens, bedrooms, and similar indoor spaces.

Second press

Active Mode (audible)

The device also emits a faint, audible high-pitched tone. Intended for use during an active infestation, and for commercial spaces such as warehouses, storage rooms, garages, restaurants, and hotels.

Third press

Off

The device stops emitting sound. Unplug the device when it will not be used for an extended period.

Recommended use: start in Active Mode when pests are present, then switch to Passive Mode for ongoing use.

How it works

Ultrasonic sound

PestRx uses ultrasonic technology. When plugged in and switched on, it emits continuously shifting high-frequency sound waves. In Passive Mode these frequencies are above the range of normal human hearing, so most people will not hear the device operating.

Many rodents and insects can perceive sound in this range. The changing signal is intended to make the treated room uncomfortable for them and to encourage them to leave the area and avoid settling there. The device is intended to repel pests; it does not kill or trap them.

Some animals, including certain pets, can also hear frequencies above the human range. See Precautionary statements before using PestRx in rooms where pets are kept.

Typical human hearing (about 20 hertz to 20 kilohertz) compared with PestRx output: an audible tone at 9 to 15 kilohertz in Active Mode and ultrasonic output from 20 to 65 kilohertz Typical human hearing ≈ 20 Hz – 20 kHz PestRx audible tone (Active Mode only) 9 – 15 kHz PestRx ultrasonic output 20 – 65 kHz 0 20 kHz 40 kHz 60 kHz Frequency (kilohertz) →

Sound above about 20 kHz is called ultrasonic and is above the range of normal human hearing. Upper hearing limits vary from person to person and decline with age; many animals hear higher frequencies than people do. Frequency ranges are manufacturer specifications.

Timeline

What to expect

Results vary with room size and layout, the type of pest, the severity of the infestation, and whether food sources and entry points have been addressed. Keep the device running continuously.

7–14 daysAllow this long before judging results
2 modesPassive (silent) and Active (audible)
~3 yearsDesigned for about three years of continuous use
  1. Days 1–3

    Disruption

The sound disturbs pests and rodents. A temporary increase in sightings is common as they move away from their usual nesting and travel areas.

  2. Days 4–7

    Movement

Pests typically begin to leave the treated area in search of quieter places.

  3. Days 7–14

    Reduction

Sightings usually decline. Continue running the device and keep food stored and the area clean.

  4. Week 2 and beyond

    Ongoing use

Leave PestRx running in Passive Mode for continued deterrence. If new activity appears, switch to Active Mode for a period and check for new entry points.

Usage tips

Tips for best results

PestRx works best as part of an overall approach that removes what attracts pests and how they get in.

  1. Source: remove food and trash temptations. Store food in airtight containers, wipe counters, keep garbage lidded, and eliminate standing water.
  2. Survey: spot-check. Walk each room looking for droppings, gnaw marks, or gaps so you can address problems before they grow.
  3. Seal: every entryway. Caulk cracks, seal door gaps, repair window screens, and use steel wool to fill entry gaps.
  4. Sound: run PestRx continuously. Keep the device plugged in and running 24 hours a day, one unit per room.
  5. Sustain: declutter and clean. Clear piles of paper or boxes, clean behind appliances, and re-check periodically for new droppings.
Precautionary statements

Read before use

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

  • For indoor use only. Do not use outdoors or in damp or wet locations such as bathrooms, laundry areas, or near sinks and tubs. Keep the device dry.
  • Plug directly into a wall outlet. Do not use with extension cords, power strips, or outlet adapters.
  • Do not cover the device or block the speaker opening. Keep curtains, fabric, and other materials clear of the unit.
  • Do not open, modify, or attempt to repair the device. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
  • Unplug the device before cleaning. Clean only with a dry cloth. Do not immerse in water or spray with liquids or cleaners.
  • Stop using the device if the housing is cracked, the prongs are bent or damaged, or the device has gotten wet.
  • Not a toy. Do not allow children to handle or play with the device.
  • Pets: do not use in rooms where pet rodents (hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, mice, rats), rabbits, or other small mammals are kept; these animals can hear ultrasonic frequencies. Other pets may also perceive the sound. If any pet shows signs of distress, unplug the device or move it to another room.
  • Active Mode is audible. If the tone is bothersome to anyone in the space, switch to Passive Mode or move the device.
  • Electronic interference: ultrasonic sound can in some cases affect hearing aids, baby monitors, or ultrasonic-type motion sensors. If you notice interference, move the device to another outlet or room.
Maintenance

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the device working if I can't hear it?

Yes. In Passive Mode the sound is above the range of normal human hearing, so silence is normal. The indicator light shows that the device is on.

How many should I use?

One device per room. Ultrasonic sound does not pass through walls, doors, or solid furniture, so each room that needs coverage should have its own unit.

Can I use it in rooms where pets are kept?

Do not use PestRx in rooms where hamsters, gerbils, guinea pigs, rabbits, pet mice or rats, or other small pet mammals are kept; they can hear ultrasonic frequencies. Other pets may also perceive the sound. If any pet shows signs of distress, unplug the device or move it to another room.

Why do I see more rodents or insects at first?

A temporary increase in activity is common in the first few days as the sound disrupts normal patterns. Keep the device running continuously and allow 7–14 days before judging results.

Does PestRx kill rodents or insects?

No. PestRx is designed to repel pests with sound. It does not kill or trap them, so you should not expect to find dead pests.

Where should I plug it in?

Directly into a wall outlet, with the speaker facing the open room. Keep the unit unobstructed. Do not use power strips, extension cords, or adapters.

Is any maintenance required?

Just keep it plugged in and dust it occasionally with a dry cloth (unplugged). There are no refills or parts to replace.

Can I use it in a garage, basement, or storage room?

Yes, if the outlet is indoors and the location is dry. Do not use outdoors or anywhere the device could get wet.
